An Ode to My Boys...and Their Love of Fishing.

The week's first catch -- Jesse's score!

I have three fishing Hoolies...
And one large fishing man.

They like to fish from dawn 'til dusk...
This is their Fishy Plan.

In this case...the world's largest chub.

The grand, elusive "Lunker"...

Some salmon, trout, or bass...

They careth not the fishy "brand"

So long its length will pass!

This was my view of my kids all week....their backsides.
They'll go without their breakfast..
 Or extra sleeping in.

But this girl here? I want them both ~
No food? No sleep? No win!!

Some days, fishing was optional...naps were needed.
So, while they're up REAL early...
Before the sun is up...

I'm hunkered down inside my camp ~
With coffee in my cup!

Cascade Stream.

Two trouties caught there on Kev's fly rod.
 They'll work their casting muscles...
~ Perfect their reeling in...

I hear their raucous laughter
Above the motor's din!
My one early morning with them.
Their lead core lines ~ their fly fish rods...
They're happy as can be!

And an hour or two of quiet?
Myself alone with me?
Caught a salmon.  Trying to measure its length.
Well, this grand plan can work for all...
An hour or two each day!

I'll sit and sip my coffee...
While fish flee in dismay!
One inch too small.  Bummer.
When they get back, I'll hear their tales ~
I'll cheer their fishy prize.

They'll settle in - but not for long...
I see it in their eyes.

"It's okay, Buddy.  The next one is OURS!"
And sure enough, before too long...
One stands and says:  "Let's go!"

I'll smile into the silence...
And grab another cup of Joe.

(#3071-#4028 ~ My Joy Journey)

Where I've Been...

This was our HOME for the past seven days.
A little slice of Heaven set deep in the heart of Rangeley, Maine.
We are filthy, we are tired, and we have laundry up to our ears...but we are refreshed.
It was glorious.

4th of July.

With the 4th of July happening right in the middle of a work week, we hemmed and hawed about whether or not we should do a blitz trip up home to be with family or if we should just stay down here and start to make our own little family traditions for this particular Holiday.

However.  For whatever reason, the 4th is one of my absolute most favorite Holidays of all -- and I feel like it just begs for families to be together.  Especially in my small hometown.  This is the week when our town comes alive!  We have Midnight Madness where all of the stores stay open all night, and with each successive hour the sales get better.  We have the most hick parade you've ever seen in your life, we have a super sweet fair that comes to town, and we have some pretty rockin' fireworks to top everything off.

So, we just had to go up home for a few hours.

I mean, seriously.... where else are you going to see a ninety year old Elvis impersonator?

Or about eight jillion red tractors all in a row?

And c'mon.  My little home church is celebrating 100 years, so they had their very own float.  I think I yelled pretty obnoxiously when they went by.  I was just so proud...

Might be why the picture is a little bit blurry.  Plus it was raining.  My word, I think it rains almost every year on parade day.

And decked out Mama goats getting led down the road on a leash.
You don't see that every day, now do you?

And this!  I can't really explain this one.  I don't get it.

But, there was also a man taking a bath in an old washtub, Santa on a donkey, some dude singing into a microphone thinking he was far more amazing than he really was, candy and watermelon, horses pooping all their merry way down the road, and tons of freaky looking clowns.

Now, that's a parade if I ever did see one.

But, if that wasn't enough, the kicker for me was an afternoon spent with sweet cousins, Aunty's and Uncles.  Eating, four-wheeling, and one rockin' hay ride...minus the hay.

It was love-o-ly.
And the fireworks were pretty fun, too.

So, now we are home.

Bleary-eyed because of a couple of late nights, - and just a wee bit stressed because of all of the work that we left behind and that needs to be caught up on now.  But, that's okay.

And I'm pretty sure that's what SUMMER is supposed to be all about, anyway.  If the opportunity comes up where you have the chance to get together with family or friends - even if it takes a little more effort and work, and even if that means the garden is going to get a few more weeds and the lawn is going to grow just a little bit higher, and the car is going to need a little bit more gas....and the house is going to stay neglected for just a little (or a lot a bit) more longer...

It's so worth it.
At least in my book it is, anyway.

Summer is the season where days are long and memories are made.

And...

"It isn't the great big pleasures that count the most; it's making a great deal out of the little ones." ~ Jean Webster

Like...
::  Vacation days mid-week.
::  Crazy red-neck parades.
::  An afternoon with family.
::  Fireworks with a big brother.
::  Late LATE nights for the wee ones.
::  Hayrides and four-wheeling.
::  And loving the fact that "one of the very nicest things about life is the way we must regularly stop whatever it is we are doing and devote our attention to eating." ~ Luciano Pavarotti

And my oh my....my family.  We are good eaters.
Happy Belated 4th of July!

Tifani.

Last night, during a crazy rain storm with a glorious rainbow in the background, our little group gathered together down at Pushaw Lake, and together we witnessed sweet Tifani make a public profession in front of friends and family that she has finally and fully decided to "go all in" for Jesus.

Our little family and so many others have prayed for this girl for months....
We've walked with her, lived life with her, loved on her, answered questions, asked more of our own, and tried to show her a Jesus who is trustworthy.  The perfect Father.  And a God who is good - always good - no matter what.

A Savior who knows her intimately, who loves her deeply, and who will never let her go....
She has scars.
She has baggage.
She carries a heavy load from a heavy past....

....And she has laid them down...and passed them on to the Ultimate Burden Bearer.

Because His yoke is easy, and His burden is light.

Jesus...

The binder of the brokenhearted.
Our freedom from captivity.
Our release from darkness.
The One who comforts those who mourn.
And who brings beauty out of the ashes.
And Tifani....

"All in."

Still with struggles.
Still with questions.
Just like all the rest of us.....

And so we journey on together...

With Heaven a little more full.
Our community a little more tight.
Our stories ever mingling...brothers and sisters, learning, living, and growing...

Sunday.

"My heart overflows with a good theme; I address my verses to the King...." ~ Psalm 45:1

"Oh clap your hands, all peoples; shout to God with the voice of joy.  For the Lord God Most High is to be feared." ~ Psalm 47:1

"Sing praises to God, sing praises;  Sing praises to our King.  [For] great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised." ~ Psalm 47:6, 48:1

"We have thought on your lovingkindness, Oh God.  For such is God, Our God forever and ever; He will guide us until death." ~ Psalm 48:9, 14

"Oh God, You are my God; I shall seek you earnestly. Because your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips will praise you. So I will bless you as long as I live..." ~ Psalm 63

"You who seek God, let your heart revive!" ~ Psalm 69: 32b
: : :

~ May we be revived not only on this, the Lord's Day, but on every other day, as well.
~ May His praise be forever on our lips, no matter the circumstances.
~ May we open His Word Monday thru Saturday, and not only on Sunday.
~ May we fellowship with our Communities other days, as well.
~ May we be Christ to the world outside our walls.
~ May we, His children, be honest reflections of Him, our Father.
~ And may we Love Him, Love Others, and Make Disciples, in His name, and in His power, and by His grace alone...

Happy Sunday, Friends...
